English is the second language in Malaysia. Thus, English has been taught in early school education up to university level. By 2016, English subject will be a compulsory subject in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia(SPM).
However, students’ proficiencies in English are still not satisfactory. Students’ mastery of the basic aspects are still weak and the lack of interest in the subject of English language has been identified as one of the key factors to the existence of this problem.
Therefore, the SMK Syed Sirajuddin English Panel is conducting “English is fun” programme as a way to increase the Form One students’ interest in learning the English subject.
“English is fun” programme was carried out on Saturday, 5th October 2013 at Dewan Terbuka SMK Syed Sirajuddin with 100 participants. The programme started at 8.00 am with the registration, followed by a small briefing from Cik Oui Siew Aim.
Various activities were conducted and operated by Pn. Surayya Ibrahim such as conveying messages through whispering, naming places according to the given pictures, and finding words using newspapers and pasting them as quickly as possible on the given manila card . The activity continued by singing two english songs conducted by Cik Hirjusna Ibrahim .
